The History of Aircold Panel Solutions

Humble Beginnings of Aircold Panel Solutions

Humble Beginnings

John Coyne, the founder of Aircold, started as a butcher, following his father's footsteps. However, driven by a desire for a different lifestyle and by his wife's aversion to blood, he decided on a pivotal career change. Determined to forge a new path, he balanced his day job at a slaughterhouse with a nighttime apprenticeship under a refrigeration engineer. Thanks to his unwavering commitment and talent, John transitioned to a full-time refrigeration assistant role within merely six months.

To enhance his skills and gain qualification, John pursued additional knowledge by enrolling in a refrigeration engineering and mechanics course at a technical college, which allowed him to introduce new techniques and equipment to his employer. On top of that, John's connections in the meat industry brought many customers to his new refrigeration business.

In 1980, John founded his own company Aircold Refrigeration Limited, the predecessor of Aircold Panel Solutions. His son, Andy Coyne, joined the business in 1995. A few years later, Aircold seized an opportunity in refrigeration manufacturing to expand from its engineering roots. This transformation led to the company's name changing from Aircold Refrigeration to Aircold Manufacturing in 1988, and ultimately to Aircold Panel Solutions.

Rapid Expansion of Aircold Panel Solutions

Rapid Expansion

Aircold was initially only run by the Coyne family. Since Andy Coyne, John Coyne’s youngest son, undertook the leadership of Aircold in 2000, the company has undergone rapid growth.

During this transformative phase, Mark Coyne, Andy’s brother, crossed paths with John Bourke, an Irish business consultant, during a business trip to Japan. Recognising the potential synergy, Mark introduced John to join and support Aircold’s development. Aircold then embarked on a journey to build a cohesive team and establish the business structure, including digitalising information systems and standardising order and manufacturing processes.

Expanding the sales team empowered Aircold to cultivate a strong client base spanning in both commercial and industrial sectors. “We take pride in what we do, and that’s why we have to keep getting better and better” states the managing director, Andy Coyne. As the Aircold team constantly strive to provide excellent products and services to their customers, their dedication has earned Aircold the trust of its clients, enabling the company to weather the 2008 recession and sustain consistent growth ever since.
